Giveback Girl: Scieska Adderley
Stories
Giveback Girl
-
Last week our speaker was Scieska Adderley from the Giveback Girl organization.  Her aim is to raise awareness and give support to families in crisis.

In 2016 while working at ZNS, she had a desire to make a good Christmas show.  She was speaking to her boss about how her family always gives to those in need at Christmas time.  This was a tradition the family had started every Christmas with her aunt spearheading the efforts.  Her boss thought that what the family did would be a good idea for a TV show and she agreed to document the process for TV.

Sadly her aunt passed away and Scieska did not want to do the show anymore but her boss thought the show could be a tribute to her aunt.  Scieska did the show along with her family in 2016,  The theme was "My Christmas Wish".  The show aired on ZNS and became a fan favorite.  The show aired every Christmas after this.

The show is now in it's 7th season and Scieska and her family have been able to help many persons since.  In 2018 the show was nominated for the People's Choice Award and numerous persons in Nassau and the family islands were assisted.  In 2019 after devastation by Dorian more than 200 children in children's homes were assisted and hosted to a funfest.

In 2020 with the pandemic upon us,  Scieska realized the need was too great to only give at Christmas time and formed a non-profit to be able to help more people.  The Giveback Girl officially became a non-profit in July of 2021.  In 2021 The Giveback Girl organization renovated two transitional homes at the back of The Ranfurly Home on Mackey Street and hosted Ranfurly senior students to seminars on job hunting, finances and more.  More is needed and they are working on constructing 4 additional units at Ranfurly.

The spaces give a safe healthy and loving home environment for residents as they transition outside of the school when they become adults.  A fundraiser in memory of her aunt is planned for July 1st.  The show will now be shown on all major networks.  The organization is in need of a project manager, a reliable and experienced contractor, building supplies, furniture and assistance with TV production costs as well as other costs. Scieska closed by emphasizing that the residents they are helping are young and have a bright future if we give them the foundation that they need.

To encourage students to succeed this academic year and to welcome them back on campus, RCSEN in partnership with RCSENC rolled out the red carpet and welcomed students of Columbus Primary back to school.

Students were provided with over 100 backpack bags and school supplies packages, courtesy of our cooperate partner Commonwealth Bank. The bags and packages contained books, pens, pencils, and rulers.

In additional to the Red Carpet Welcome Back Event, RCSEN presented Columbus Primary with over 8 cases of exercise books and outfitted the school campus with signage to help parents and students navigate the new school on the in person schedule.
