Our speaker last week was J. Rashad Chea, a new Rotarian from the Rotary Club of South East Nassau and a sales manager at BAF Financial Bahamas. J. Rashad gave a "my job talk". J. Rashad works in the lifestyle department with sales at BAF. He has been with BAF for nine years with the first four as an insurance agent and the latter years as a manager. J. Rashad described the difference between home service insurance and the lifestyle department. He also indicated that the lifestyle department sells upwards of hundreds of thousands in life insurances and major medicals, taking on the higher end of coverage. As a manager, he is responsible for the development and growth of his branch. He recruits, mentors and trains agents to be successful. He currently has seven persons on his team and is looking to grow the team so they can branch out even further. He also does reports and is always studying and training to stay on top of the markets. J. Rashad described the process of how he got involved in insurance. He came into the insurance field from banking and had to do training and testing before he was hired as an insurance agent. He thinks that the insurance industry teaches many valuable skills which can be used in other aspects of a person's life. He spoke of when he was in school looking at careers. He does not remember much information being given about the insurance industry on career day and other occasions when school programs gave information to students about various job types. He thinks that the insurance industry should be given just as much focus as other careers because it is a very exciting and rewarding field. He has plans to work with students in the future and give them information about his industry
