Last week our speaker was Brittany Turnquest who has been an Earyact advisor at Columbus Primary for 6 years. Brittany has enjoyed the opportunity she had to sit in the position and to make a difference in the lives of her students. She sees Earlyact as the following three things: opportunity, advocacy and fun. Her students describe Earlyact as helping others, helping communities, working in groups, helping others who need food items, fellowship with others, learning about community service and helping the environment just to name a few.
Some of the initiatives that Earlyact has participated in that her students love are the Salvation Army Bell Ringing, the school beautification project which involved painting of the benches and beautifying the play area, RYLA, the environmental cleanup at The Bahamas National Trust, raising funds for donation to the Ranfurly Home, collecting canned goods for Great Commission, the Lunch and Learn initiative and the annual welcome back to school red carpet event. They also enjoyed meeting District Governor Louis Weaver and First Lady Weaver
. Covid created numerous challenges for the students and affected the ability to have meetings regularly however an executive board was created with the students and Ms. Turnquest is moving forward with new initiatives and restarting some of the projects that students enjoy. Ms. Turnquest thanked RCSEN and Rotary for their help and support and said that Rotary has always been there to support them when needed.
